Indigenous Programs

Indigenous Performance Programming

Weyt-kp! CKBC partners with Canoe Kayak Canada and B.C.'s Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council to support Indigenous paddling initiatives such as introductory programs, training camps, talent identification, competitions, and club development.

Two main competition opportunities exist in the BC Summer Games and the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG).

The North American Indigenous Games is a multi-sport event and cultural celebration involving Indigenous youth between the ages of 13-19 from across North America staged intermittently since 1990. NAIG help us realize the collective potential of our bodies, minds, spirit and of our people - our hopes and dreams - The Spirit Strong, Brave & True.

The vision of NAIG is to improve the quality of life for Indigenous Peoples by supporting self-determined sports and cultural activities which encourage equal access to participation in the social / cultural / spiritual fabric of the community in which they reside and which respects Indigenous distinctiveness.

Indigenous Community & School Programming

CKBC offers introductory and participation paddling programs through communities and schools. Programs can be customized to fit most time frames and locations across British Columbia.

If your community or school is interested in an Indigenous program, please contact indigenousrelations@canoekayakbc.ca and Info@kamloopscanoeandkayakclub.ca

The Kamloops Canoe & Kayak Club acknowledges that we are located on Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc territory, situated within the unceded ancestral lands of the Secwépemc Nation. We honour and respect the people, the territory, and the land that houses our community.
